Get to know the Big Beach Crew
The Big Beach Crew was established in 1998, so we've been around for a while. Yet in all this time there is one persistent myth that we would like to finally dispel: that Laveen is "Way the f*** out there." Well that's simply not true. Laveen is actually closer to downtown Phoenix, than Chandler, Ahwatukee, Gilbert or Mesa. So if you live in those parts of the valley and are driving an hour north to get your volleyball fix, the Big Beach Crew's Sun Volley Ranch might be your salvation. The Sun Volley Ranch features three regulation courts with genuine beach sand that's at least 12 inches deep. When you play in a Big Beach Crew tournament, you feel it the next day in your legs. Unless, of course, you're already used to actually playing on a real beach.
The heart and soul behind the Big Beach Crew is, Misty LaSalvia, a top-flight open player who is well-known and highly respected among the valley's elite sand volleyball players. She's played at Hawaii Pacific University and has played in major events in California as well. So when it comes to constructing sand courts that most closely resemble those you find at places like Manhattan Beach in California, Misty's oversight and direction is spot-on.
